One Week Into It.....

So I'm officially approaching one full week as a professional full time artist. The time has gone soooo quick. I never thought that the day would come where I would be able to sleep past 5 am. (for the record, it is as good as people have told me it would be.) I can hardly believe how much work I have been able to produce as well. You wouldn't think that adding 10 - 12 hours would be that much really, but it feels like I produced an extra 2 paintings, and I still have a full day tomorrow. I've been so excited about the prospect of having time to explore parts of my art work that I've pushed to the backburner. In fact, today I found an old sketch book from my 2nd year in the art program at the U. It was pretty amazing to see the ideas that I had. I was willing to try a whole lot more in school and I can't wait to get back to some of those ideas.

Here is a little 14X18 that was done in December / January. It is a from an area outside of Oakley, Utah. It is one of my favorite areas. It is unfortunate for me that it is beginning to grow quickly and the areas that I've painted are disappearing equally as rapidly. I do just love that area.

Peoa!

I love Peoa. I have painted so many locations near this tiny town in Summit County. I love that it is still so rural and in some areas very delapidated. I grew up spending several weeks of the summer in this area and it still seems to speak to me. I found this picture of a painting that I did a few years ago of a field outside of Peoa. There are sometimes a few paintings that I regret selling. This is one of them for me. It really was a "growth" painting. I felt like all sorts of new things happened in this painting that hadn't happened beforehand. I painted it at a time when I was only painting square paintings, so the compostion needed to fit within the 30X30 parameter. It was always a fun challenge to work out. There are so many things that I love about this painting from the color to the texture. Anyway, I can't wait until the snow thaws just a bit so that I can get up there again.

The Big News!

Ok, so I've already posted on the family blog that I've put in my notice at my morning job. It has been just over 9 years there. (terrifying to stop and think about) It has been a good job though. I can't complain as it is where I met Jules and I'm absolutely positive that my life would be a trainwreck without her. It also helped pay for the bills while Jules and I finished college. They have been good to work with me as I've transitioned from full time to part time to no time. I'm absolutely terrified of this decision to quit, but on the other hand, I've never felt so ready and good about this decision. If it were up to Julia, I'd have quit years ago... She seems to have a bit more faith in me than I do. I guess that I would never know if I could really do this if I never made this leap of faith. Sooooo..... Here we go. February 22nd is my last day.

I've got several shows coming up that I'm thrilled about. I'll continue to post them, but the first is in less than a month in Palm Desert. It is a plein air show that I get to participate in. The list of artists invited is short and I have to thank Gary for looking out for me. Art and Soup is coming up at the end of March as well.
