Plein Air

I was able to spend the last couple of weeks painting plein air and boy am I glad to be back in the studio. Don't get me wrong, I had a good time painting flowers at the Thanksgiving Point show, but it took several paintings to feel like I was painting anything worthwhile. This last weekend, Gary and I were able to participate in another plein air festival. This one happened to be up in Midway / Heber and all I can say is that it was beautiful. I actually was satisfied with the work that I produced and let's be honest, I'm pretty darn lucky to go painting with a pro like Gary. The upside is that he is so down to earth and we get along so well. The downside is that everything that I produce looks incredibly amateur in comparison to his. I was seriously exhausted by the end of it all. The controlled temperature and controlled lighting of the studio was just such a nice environment to get back to. I'll post pix as soon as I upload them.

Thanksgiving Point Plein Air

I really need to be better at posting. It isn't that I don't have a lot to say, rather it is trying to a: find the words to express myself and b: to find the time to sit down and write it out. I did want to make sure that I gave the 411 on a show happening this next week that I will be able to participate in. It is June 20 - 21 from 10am - 8pm at Thanksgiving Point. I always have a bit of anxiety when it comes to painting plein air because I have found myself painting in studio rather than submitting myself to the elements. On the other hand, I love the idea of the constantly changing light and the challenge of putting something so fluid on canvas. There are a good number of artists participating (some of my local favorites) so I hope that people can find their way out for one of these dates.
